Forest Friends Treat Table

Forest Friends Treat Table

A weekend at the cabin serves as a relaxed time for extended family to gather together, a tradition started over 15 years ago.  A perfect setting for a treat table featuring owl and mushroom cookies. Golden cupcakes with chocolate frosting are adorned with simple toppers using printable images from Cupcake Cutiees Etsy Shop. The designs are used again as an edible image for cookies. S'more pops take the work out of toasting marshmallows, but none of the flavor, with chocolate ganache and homemade graham crackers.
Chocolate Owl cookies decorated with fondant. Leaf plunger cutters make fast and detailed wings.
Chocolate Confetti

3 different colors of chocolate candy coating, 1/2 pound each
3 tablespoons paramount crystals,
    available at candy supply stores
4 cups Kix cereal
1 bag popped plain popcorn
4 cups corn flakes

Starting with lightest color of candy coating, in a microwave safe bowl, melt 1/2 pound of chocolate candy coating with 1 tablespoon of paramount crystals on high for about 20 seconds and then stir. Continue heating and stirring until chocolate is completely melted. Pour over Kix and mix well. Spread out in an even layer on a wax paper covered tray. Set aside.

Using the same bowl, melt the next darkest color of coating, using the same ratio of chocolate and crystals. When melted, pour over popcorn. When completely coated, spread out on another tray and allow to set.

Finish with darkest color and coat the corn flakes in same method.

When all of the treats are dry, break apart and combine in one large, airtight container.

Chocolate Confetti will keep for at least one week.
Make it red, green and white during the holidays, the combinations are endless!
Retro colors and plates echo the styles popular when the older generation camped together as children, over 30 years ago.
The greenery of the state park creates a background of its own.
Treats wait while a picnic of Zoomers, grilled cheese with tomato slices, and chicken chilli is prepared. Meals are a real smorgasbord, each family bringing a dish.
Favors are kept simple with a clothespin and wax paper bags. The chocolate confetti keeps well and makes a colorful addition to the paper buckets.
